Another of Louie Vega’s pseudonyms, Sole Fusion’s first release ‘We Can Make It’ was a straight disco cut-up with new vocals from Pierre Salandy. But with ‘Bass Tone’ the MAW man showed his versatility by branching out in a different direction. Its percussive minimalism and melancholic keyboards sound like a blueprint for Derrick Carter and Classic Records’ (which started the year after this came out) style of deep house. An undiscovered classic.
