The Skinnerbox Disco Jazz Opus “King Of Spades And Marmalades” (album MMXA0903LP) has not even been digested properly – yet these Electronic nerds have hurled into work again. First, an own branded synthesizer for Ableton’s collaboration software Max4Live was developed, and now a new maxi is ready to be out.On “Sam & Earl” they show again their affinity to 80’s Funk and dirty Disco. Skinnerbox have reduced the Techno elements in their music to a minimum in favor of more Housiness. If it would be that easy to categorize we had name it, but forces rather for description: ubiquitously, the Moog rules the tunes and got lots of Funk in it. The Beats are appointed to House with a certain Techno bass emerging occasionally. And, it breathes Disco – understood! Sam (A) heads straightly forward to “Liberty of House”. But what is that? Such a fluffy percussive start turns into a strange dark morphing after just a few seconds. Only three notes lead the tune for almost six minutes to be milled in a loooong break and open out into the final. Now, Sam may dance. Earl (B) gives a positive and relaxing intro to turn into a paralyzing – almost stressful tunity. The track gets rid successively by the Moog’s guidance, stately of course.
