Tastemaker of the upcoming "Elaste 2" compilation, this time with tracks selected by Michael Reinboth & Michael Heinkel. This 12" features two tracks ("Accretions" & "My Spine Is The Bassline") by the legendary UK new wave/funk outfit Shrieback which started out in 1982 with ex XTC and Gang Of Four members members Dave Allen & Barry Andrews. After last years success of DJ Mooners critically acclaimed Cosmic Disco compilation we are entering another round of rare 80s underground dance music. This EP is just a tastemaker to the forthcoming Elaste Vol. 2, compiled by two other maniac record nerds out of Munich: Michael Reinboth and Michael Heinkel. On this EP they turn the spotlight on a crazy underestimated band from the early 80s. Unjustly forgotten by the majority. Shriekback was one of the most interesting, consistent and progressive UK new wave formations. Their sound has borrowed heavily from funk. Overall they released seven albums and dozens of 12inches, some of them gained cult status. Earlier this year, a new album saw the light of day. In 1983, the NME described Shriekback's music in June '83 "England's synthetic synergy with The Talking Heads". Another accurate comparison was written in The Face October '83: "A Certain Ratio meets Human League in Heaven 17". The track "Accretions" is taken from the very rare "Tench" EP on Y Records and "My Spine Is The Bassline" is another classic cool tune originally released on 7" and 12" in '82. One year later it appeared on the Warner/Sire Records album "Care". Shriekback started out in 1982. The original line up included former XTC and Gang Of Four members Dave Allen (bass) and Barry Andrews (keyboards) and Carl Marsh (vocals, guitar).
