Right on cue and sticking to his promise of a release every 3 months, Seiji - the much-lauded and respected producer from West London - returns with the third part of his 2010-launched SEIJI series - the strictly dancefloor-focused project that will be continuing with a release every 3 months throughout 2011.
Having successfully explored a career path that's established him as a founding member of Broken Beat originators Bugz In The Attic, a key artist for the seminal Jungle/D'n'B label Reinforced, a downbeat solo artist for Sonar Kollectiv and a producer and co-writer for the brilliant Roisin Murphy, in 2011 Seiji is a man focused squarely on the dancefloor. The inspired SEIJI series is just one part of that with Seiji stripping things right back, identifying each release with a simple number and putting all his energy into creating music that he truly believes in. A merging of sounds and influences that have always been with him, but have never sounded so right - encapsulating everything that’s exciting about the underground UK scene at the moment.
As with the previous two releases, SEIJI 3 is a double A-side with 'More Of You' structuring itself around an almost incessant vocal loop that provides the backbone to one of the heaviest and deepest rollers that you're likely to hear for a long time. A really interesting combination of styles with the wooziness of dubstep, the uplifting and driving quality of great techno, the glitz of two-step garage and even a touch of b-more on the drums. It's a beauty.
On the flip, 'Sticks' is a more conventional, playful house groover, but with those special sounds and twists in direction that can only really be created by someone with an education in bass music. Fitting in neatly with the UK Funky sound, this is Seiji's own take on house music and it has so much more than the often-formulaic releases that come out of the European house and techno scenes. This will be just as at home (and as powerful) alongside a Claude VonStroke record as it will next to the latest Roska.
