Nihil EP is the 4th vinyl release of Croisière Musique, by RX who co-created the label. These 4 tracks show various sides of RX style, mostly club-oriented, from heavy drum patterns to more aerial and swinging deep house. RX is a 28 year old Parisian producer who was discovered with his Zeta EP on Croisière Musique, label he founded last year with his friend François Halard. With a classical music background, RX started to produce few years ago and finds its inspiration into house and techno music, particularly their minimal forms of the late 90’s and early 2000’s, as well as non-electronic genres such jazz and soul. In 2015 he released on french label Tablon, and he will also later this year release on Ukrainian imprint Tvir. RX produces a groovy house tinted with melancholy, makes usage of piano, voice glitches and aerial pads. He’s part of this new wave of young producers of stripped-down groovy house such as Domenico Rosa or Nicola Kazimir from Les Points. The EP explores “Nihil” as its original Greek sense which is the absence of anything, from the absence of other human beings to the absence of any tangible aspect of the outside world. The A-side shows more of club-oriented house whereas the B side appears to be more playful and laid-back. Alone is based on a constant melancholic swinging drum who mesmerizes the listener, alternatively put ahead or behind other elements. Within the whispers we can hear “but you’re still alone”, which brings a darkened touch to the track : whatever one can do to avoid being alone, it only temporarily drives away his spleen. The pad which comes in the second part sounds like a sun rise who brings relief after a long night. Annexe is a dance-floor killer, using few elements but precisely shaped, glued together by a thick bassline. Then the 909 kick and hats electrify the atmosphere. Cold sounds, groovy drums, then suddenly and innocent melody who reminds childhood barrel organ cuts the storm, before it starts again. This track structure is a clear illustration of RX’s style. Samsara brings an aquatic and bouncy bassline, glitches elements, and synthetic melodies which are mixed together. The final track Supersonal has a compact sound with a lot of swing, an analog synth loop who keeps changing shape, who reminds some works of STL. Croisière Musique has emerged from Paris in early 2014, founded by RX and François Halard. “Croisière” evokes the experience of getting lost in the music, night or day, from our frenetic feet moves on the floor to the deepest melancholy of our mind. Croisière Musique collaborates with young artists from various countries who form the new scene of minimal house, who make music with a distinctive look and care, a music which triggers emotions from special grooves.
