Limited reissue of this awesome 1971 album from the multi-talented English songstress Ruth Copeland. In the early 70s Copeland was working extensively with P-funk legends Parliament and Funkadelic (including writing their huge anti-war hit ‘Come In Out of the Rain’) and here they returned the favour. With songs co-written by George Clinton and members of the original Funkadelic band who also supplied musical backing, this LP has true funk-rock credentials burned right through it with the acid-rock funksters’ wild sound working amazingly well with Copeland’s delicately soulful conscious lyrics to create a leftfield masterpiece. With a raw power and spine-tingling emotional charge, the album delivers on every level featuring superlative organ and keyboard work from the master Bernie Worrell, slamming guitars from Eddie Hazell and Ray Monette underlaid with fierce drums and bass all topped with Copeland’s stunning vocals. Sampled by everyone from Tribe Called Quest to Madlib to Wu-Tang Clan, this is jam packed with top quality tracks including heart-rending nu-folk anti-war story ‘The Medal’, low-slung burner ‘Don’t You Wish You Had’, crazy funk freakout ‘Suburban Family Lament’, gorgeous soul ballad ‘Crying Has Made Me Stronger’ and the inspired Stones covers ‘Play With Fire’ and ‘Gimme Shelter’. Don’t miss your chance to own a vinyl copy of this incredible album.
