“Sudies I-XVII” is a collection of short, sparse, rhythmic pieces created with live instrumentation, samples of live instruments and the studio computer at hand, this intuitive set of stripped-down compositions is influenced by Ethnic & world music, free jazz improvisation, the morning ragas of Bismallah Khan, and the off-kilter reggae of Keith Hudson, as well as the Deroit-Berlin-London electronic music axis and the experimental/minimal compositions by Xenakis, Reich & Pierre Schaeffer.
Rupert Clervaux is a musician/composer/engineer currently working with Sian Alice Group, New Build and Alice Group, and mixing credits for labels Treader, OTOroku, Matchless & Fataka.
Beatrice Dillon is a composer/performer/DJ with past events at the ICA London, IFFR Rotterdam, Pallais de Toyko Paris, and compilations on Trilogy Tapes (“Folkways 2”) and Public Information.
Their last collaboration “Sequence One – Notes Upon Woven Strings” was performed and recorded at the MONA festival in Tasmania for release on The Vinyl Factory.
The concept behind the recording was the exploration of rudimentary rhythms and melodies outside the constraints of genre, and following the intuitive/organic path dictated by their mutual influences at the time of the recording sessions.
