Joe Babylon’s Roundabout Sounds hits double figures and continues to impress with Rondenion’s vinyl only ‘2-5-1’ EP release. The Californian label has built a superb reputation since its foundation in 2010, amassing an impressive roster of contributing names such as Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite, Mike Huckaby, Rick Wade and XDB. Japanese DJ and producer Rondenion returns to Roundabout Sounds with ‘2-5-1’ following his debut LP ‘Luster Grand Hotel’ released back in early 2013. Goto Hirofumi aka Rondenion has been working as a recording artist since the late 90s having released on labels such as Rush Hour Recordings, Bosconic and Still Music, while more recent progressions have found him working on some projects under his own imprint Ragrange Records. For ‘2-5-1’ Rondenion delivers three superb originals – ‘Strange Love’, ‘That’s Right’ and ‘Deep Step’ all ooze warmth with deep infectious drum patterns and rich bass which crown all three in a calm yet captivating quality. D Wynn’s Detroit mix utilises some biting intonations to turn ‘Strange Love’ into a slick and subtle acid track while Mike Grant’s remix of the same original takes a different approach and applies a jazzy piano riff reverberating around soft chords and delicate percussion crafting a soulful trajectory made for the sunset. Label head Joe Babylon turns up the energy for his remix of ‘Deep Step’ with swollen bass, tribal drums and a catchy mainline melody.
