Rio Padice kick started the limited vinyl only series with 4 underground house cuts that can be truly appreciated only on Vinyl.. This time around it's repressed on two tone black & white vinyl & extremely limited.....
The A side kicks off with Code No 3, a percussive tool with a groovy acidy lead. The bassline remains relentless throughout whist hi hats, rides, rim shots, shakers and claps are brought in and out of the mix. Simple but highly effective makes it a tune to jack your body to for sure.
Back To The Basics is the deepest offering of the four tracks. A washed out synth pulses in and out over a heavy 909 kick and clap. The hypnotic vocal refrain of 'Party People' and hi strings give the track that classic Chicago sound. It's the sort of track that would slot perfectly into a Jus Ed set or a Secret Sundaze party. Authentic deep house.
To side B and Chilliesque, it's the most musical of the bunch with a drawn out phasey synth that sets a melodic tone whilst playful organ riffs dance over the top. The percussion is dominated by a heavy kick and lazy cowbell rhythm. Warm and lush bringing some sunshine to dark winter months.
Saving the best for last, Mission To Mars is the EPs stand out track. Leaning towards the sound of techno - slow mo techno at that - it's dark, throbby and driving but retains a killer groove. It takes you on more of a 'mission' than a journey and the space connotations are also fitting with an eerie arpeggiated synth that wouldn't sound out of place in a dark sci-fi flick. Heavy snares and waves of ride symbols further add to its techno qualities. Best heard loud via a finely tuned Funktion One in a dark room, you will certainly feel it in the chest and be left wanting another trip to Venus
