* Drum & Bass – once a London thing, then a UK one - is now very much an international movement. Thanks to the wonders of the communications revolution, the sound that began in Britain during the 1990s has conquered the world. Nowhere more so than in Central & Eastern Europe, where a robust scene has developed over the last decade providing the world with some of the finest producers the genre has seen. * Two such producers are Hybris and Rido, who have been turning heads with their exquisitely produced solo tracks over the last 12 months, while also collaborating with some of the most respected producers in drum & bass. * Hybris first surfaced under the name ‘Robot Death Squad’ in the Washington DC D&B scene, before moving to Prague to re-invent himself under the name Hybris. In 2010 he released a 12” for Critical, and then earlier this year delivered the ‘Hybris EP’ for D&B deities, Noisia, with whom he also collaborated on the track ‘Crystalline’. * Hailing from Prague, Rido spent a few years studying music production in Sydney, before moving back to the Czech Republic to focus on making music full-time. In 2010 Rido made a batch of tunes with New Zealand’s finest D&B export Concord Dawn, one of which, ‘The Enemy Within’, was released on the Kiwi’s album last year. * Now, these frighteningly talented producers have combined for ‘The Prague Connection’ – a four-track EP that’s set to introduce Hybris and Rido to the wider world, and that acts as a reminder of the creativity possible within the tried-and- tested D&B template. * Delivering a solo track from each, backed by two collaborations, ‘The Prague Connection’ offers up a selection of beats that are pure ‘Headz in all the right places, but that are also a bold departure from the old-skool breaks and eerie pads formula the many expect of the label.
