What You Talking About?! continues Redlight’s successful adventures in the unnamed airspace between rave, house, dubstep and other dancefloor sounds. The rapidly-rising producer revolves huge, widescreen synths and hands in the air rave sonics around a slow-mo, dubstep-esque beat, whilst Ms Dynamite steps up to deliver raucous ragga vocals. Prior to its rebirth with added vocals, the single started life as instrumental MDMA, featured here on the flipside. In addition to widespread support from Skream, Benga, Sub Focus and several others the track caught the attention of high-flying British production duo Chase & Status who promptly signed it to their fledgling MTA label. Redlight then sought out triple-MOBO, double-Brit and Mercury Music Prize winner Ms Dynamite to add her lyrical gunpowder, and the end result is the fiery, anthemic and speaker-shaking assault of What You Talking About?! The digital version of the single is served up with Chopsticks, a new production with an oriental aesthetic further demonstrating Redlight’s range and reach. Whilst Redlight is still a new name to many, the man behind the beats is by no means a novice. In his original incarnation as DJ Clipz, the producer became one of the most celebrated artists in drum n bass, playing all over the globe, joining the Full Cycle family, launching his own Audio Zoo label and creating some of the genre’s essential releases. Starting afresh with a blank slate – and free from constraints, expectations or categorization – Clipz has switched to the new Redlight alter-ego in order to explore fresh musical territory. So far Redlight’s early endeavours include devastating previous single Stupid released via Shy FX’s Digital Soundboy label, remixes for Wiley, Tempa T and Magnetic Man, his own BBC 1xtra radio show and studio sessions with Rusko, Jammer, Donae’o, Ben Westbeech, Roses Gabor and Mz Bratt.
