‘Crystalline, surging IDM with a modern UK techno sensibility’, upcoming Brighton-based producer qgb presents his debut LP ‘Hornets’ via his own Present Tense imprint.
Produced over a two-year period, the album glides with lucidity between eight tracks of shimmering ambience and crisp polyrhythmic glitches. The title itself referring to poetic connections between the micro-world of insects and the intricate sound design/aesthetic of qgb's music. Throughout the record a crossbreed of UK techno influences emerge, blending approaches from 90’s stalwarts (Autechre, Cristian Vogel and Mosquito Records) with the stylistic-leanings of more contemporary labels (e.g. Hessle Audio and Livity Sound). Aoki Takamasa, Alva Noto and Team Doyobi are also cited as inspirations.
In adherence with the album concept, it takes form in a limited run of 100 custom-built USB sticks frozen in synthetic amber designed by designer Samuel Illife.
