With “Yo Son”, Prince Language delivers an edit of an 80s obscurity that sounds like it could have been an outtake from Remain In Light-era Talking Heads backing an Arabic R & B group! The track has an insistent groove powered by minimally funky, Nile Rogers-esque guitar lick and a bassline that just does not quit! Dubby Moroccan (AraBalearic?) electro beats? Sure, why not? A touch of a Trevor Horn/Malcolm Mclaren/Duck Rock vibe? Check! On the B-side’s Bamalama, NYC’s Lee Douglas chops an obscure Belle Epoque (“Miss Broadway”) track that’s very reminiscent of his own amazing productions for the Rong Music label. This one has that classic Italo vibe with lots of tight arpeggiated synths that almost verge on a Detroit techno sound, and a snatch of sexy, menacing lady-vocals. This one reminds us a lot of Tantra’s classic “Hills Of Katmandu”, and it has a bit of a Lindstrom/DFA vibe as well.
