A1. WEO
B1. Chunk Hiss
Two sides of the same coin - with their Príncipe debut Photonz deliver a personalized & 100% contemporary take on their pre-teen infatuation with the rave scene that they could not follow properly in its heyday (both Marco and Miguel being underage at the time).
One track each side, and both cuts are the longest Photonz have ever released. “WEO” buzzes like electric current, with wild shouting giving the track its marching orders, and those are “thou shalt groove and bounce and bend time to Future-Past” (of course). Many good things we remember from the techno mothership are present here: bleeps, breaks, drama, jack, explosions and an ever necessary full lexicon of deepness.
“Chunk Hiss” starts & ends with the sound of waves and seagulls looped to hypnotic effect (don't think balearic though - this a very singular trip of people who actually live by the ocean). Between the two extremes, the axis of the whole ordeal is a driving jack beat that pauses only to reintegrate and reform itself in various psychotropic & quantic ways. The track has an extended, quasi-meditative rhythmic breakdown, something for the folks on the dancefloor to enjoy low lights like they used to.
Either at a small club, a warehouse disco or your local contemporary arts museum, this wonderfully rich couple of tracks, executed with the craftsmanship of true laborers will ensure transcendence is taking place wherever these jams are being played - just let them breathe. Do check out the particularly mind-blowing soloed sections in both tracks, where an ultra precise progressive techno machine seems to be able to manipulate mineral formations and light refractions coming from all sorts of beautiful angles.
