Next up on Nang is a single from two DJs with a self-confessed chequered history. A determinedly eclectic DJing style and a friendship started behind the decks at Mambo in Ibiza one Summer evening and continued through nights spinning together at Stella Polaris and Roskilde in Denmark and Bestival in the Isle Of Wight. At the start of 2009 Coco and Gooding started a little eclectic Thursday-nighter at The Player in Soho. One thing led to another and after a series of fuzzy, hung-over sessions at Chris’s warehouse pad in Camden the club had spawned a track. The like-named groover “The Player” is a mid tempo slow burner that features the debut of Mr Pete Gooding as a cunning vocalist. Their second collaboration took further bounds forward, again using Pete on vocals, the bouncy, space-disco-meets-house groove that they called “Night Dance". This one brings to mind magic moments in that basement bar, like a fine musical cocktail it’s one part Morgan Geist, a dash of Mr Fingers. We have deployed Tokyo based Max Essa on the remix patrol. He turns in something with an early proto-house / Tony Humphries style groove. Cootcat around town Toby Tobias rounds off the package with his uber cool laid back disco minimalist grooves.
