It may only be 12 releases old, but Quartz Records has already become one of the ‘go to’ imprints for those seeking quality modern Techno and that is down to the hard work and fantastic a&r’ing of label chief Paul Ritch. The label was launched by Ritch himself with his ‘Split EP’ and after featuring music from the likes of Dubfire, Thomas Muller, Slam, Hermanez, Nic Fanciulli, David K & Jerome Pacman, Carlo Lio and label manager Okain, we come full circle with Paul’s incredible ‘Canniballs: Part 2′ EP. January’s ‘Canniballs EP’ was an instant hit and its tracks including ‘The Lick’ and ‘Suffolk’ have become staple regulars in the sets and charts of the biggest names. Part 2 is another superb selection of treats. ‘Spirit’ with its sweeping atmospheric, metallic percussion and abrasive synths, rolls brilliantly with its funky bassline. ‘Bomberos’ opens with a darker feeling. Its tough drums, bells and vocal sample lead us to its sily key riff which, when joined by the tracks bassline, takes it to another level. Closing the EP is ‘Modelo’. The most sinister of the three cuts, its a melting pot of sounds and efx. Industrial in its opening, its scything sounds are joined by haunting string stabs and a final siren
