Hot off his edits release on Square (the new Rebtuz label) Onur drops 4 soulful re-edits primed for the deepest dancefloors. As co-founder of U-Beat Records with Jay Scarlett and host of Monotape Radio, Onur has his finger on the pulse of modern, beats-driven music. Here on his 'Origins EP' he shows us his deep roots in the funk, soul and jazz of the 70's.
Onur's edits have been played by Rob Luis (Tru Thoughts), Greg Wilson, Nik Weston, Tal M. Klein and many more.
A1 Charles Sherrell - Soul Man Edit -- Kicking things off is an upbeat mix of JAMES BROWN collaborator CHARLES SHERRELL's version of the classic "SOUL MAN". ONUR adds stomping drums and cleverly chops and loops the track to make a surefire party starter.
A2 Marvin Gaye - Mandota Edit -- This instrumental out-take from the "LET"S GET IT ON" album showcases MARVIN GAYE as a composer of laid back cinematic jazzy funk. With subtle drums and effects ONUR makes the track playable next to modern instrumental beats.
B1 The Crusaders - Chain Reaction Edit -- THE CRUSADERS (aka the JAZZ CRUSADERS) lead by JOE SAMPLE and WAYNE HENDERSON pioneered the jazz fusion sound through the 1970's. Working this up-tempo track over with filters, and layering with drums, ONUR turns the track into a perfect fit for deep house, cosmic and disco dancefloors.
B2 Vic Caesar - Bare Knuckle Edit -- Rounding out the EP is the theme music from the 70's martial arts B-movie of the same name. The track is in full blaxploitation soundtrack style with verbed congas, synth touches, and heavy drums.
