Brilliant EP featuring four killer Italo classics from cult new wave label Italian Records. All from 1983, these tracks highlight the labels successful move into the burgeoning Italo-disco sound with three of the cuts mixed by legendary producer Tony Carrasco (part of seminal Italo outfit Klein & MBO) who tweaked the bands post-punk electronic songs into epic disco/proto-house tinged soundscapes. Side A kicks off with N.O.I.A.s rare Italo monster Stranger In a Strange Land. The Club Mix featured here was supplied by Mr Carrasco and has a strong early house flavour, with percussion and synths even Larry Heard would be proud of. Its a gorgeous flowing slow-burn of a track that truly does transport you to a strange and melodically beautiful land - phenomenal! Next up is the first offering from Italian synth-pop group Gaznevada - the hard-to-find Female Version of Special Agent Man. Another Tony Carrasco mix, this is pure cosmic magic, a rolling dreamscape of loose slow bass, loping drums and sweet ethereal vocals. Side B opens with another Gaznevada track I.C. Love Affair. A favourite of Ron Hardy, this is a fantastic Italo tour de force with proper sleazy bass, soaring female vocals and an amazing house-sounding intro. Last but definitely not least is the highly sought-after Dub version of Band Aids A Tour In Italy, a near-perfect example of the genre with a spacey summery tropical feel built up through layers of echoing synths, funky bass, brass stabs, cool kalimba action and bizarre tourist vocals completing the weird holiday scene. With all tracks remastered and loudpressed and replica Italian Records artwork, this is a collection not to be missed!
