FROM HERE TO EAR
Sheffield and Nottingham have long shared a mutual love of house music, with DJs and party-goers from both cities flitting between the two centres in pursuit of a vibrant scene and a great crowd.
It's not an aspect of British dance music that's much written about, but it's a connection that reaches back to the days of Jive Turkey and the Kool Kat, takes in Krush's 'House Arrest' and DIY's work with Warp, and nearly thirty years on, it's a tradition that Sheffield's Shabby Doll label and Nottingham producer Nail are keeping thrillingly alive.
Nail is Neil Tolliday, the producer who made a name for himself round the turn of the millennium as one half of downtempo duo Bent.
With four studio albums to their name, plus 'best of' sets, mix collections and other trawls through their archives, Bent soundtracked the decade's more chilled out moments with some exquisite tune making and inspired sample selections.
But Nail maintained his love of deep jacking house music throughout the years of Bent's success, and earlier in 2013, Shabby Doll released the 'Donks' EP, his first new solo material for some time.
'Donks' was closely followed by 'Yonks', also on Shabby Doll, and now the label is set to release a third four-tracker from Nail: titled 'LugHoles', the set delivers a quartet of high quality house tracks straight into your, er, lugholes.
