Arguably all but the most dedicated fans will have long forgotten Most Significant Beat, a “post-industrial” early ’90s techno project from former Clock DVA man Maurizio Martinucci and Esplendor Geonetrico’s Saverio Evangelista. This surprise vinyl compilation tells the story of their previously CD-only late ’90s work, throwing in a previously unheard workout – the angular rhythms and Sheffield bleeps of “Geometric State” – for good measure. For the most part, the material has aged remarkably well, and sits somewhere between the forthright madness of Autechre, the spacey techno of Detroit-via-Frankfurt (see “Amy Tekno”) and the buzzing intensity of Surgeon.
