Warsaw producer Michal Wolski has released with label Blank Slate before, turning in four tracks of flickering techno last year on Blank Slate 008. "Midnight Train," the opener on follow-up Blank Slate 011, is generously fleshed-out by comparison, with a thick rush of pads around its chiming melody and soft-thudding kicks.
"Magnitude" returns to a minimal style, but its spare pulse is no less satisfying and alien. "No Mind" matches the grind of a stalling engine with high-energy percussion, and "Eightfold Path," a dramatic piece that moves through several acts, finishes the EP similarly to Blank Slate 008. Beginning as a rattlesnake-like thrum of kicks, it periodically brings stormy effects and distant bleeps into the muscular mix. As with the rest of 011, Wolski injects a febrile atmosphere wherever possible.
