With their début record, Matta bring the excitement back to dubstep. But the least to say is that Matta have definitely cleared some space for themselves in 2009. Following tracks on UK's Heavy Artillery, US'S Terminal Dusk and Germany's Barish record, "The Lost" is the début solo effort by this British duo, finally giving these musicians the room they deserve to present their personal and heavy take at this genre. Cutting clear through the boundaries of dubstep, Matta also takes the trends by surprise, adding more weight and dark overtones while so many producers decide to go the other way round. In a way comparable to their new label mates Broken Note, they tap in drum'n'bass, electro and breakcore, and blend colossal beats and basses with an smart feeling for melodies, breaks and samples. In the end, Matta's tracks give you the feeling of finally hearing the material you had wished for unknowingly.
