Welcome to Rebel Intelligence – the new label is ready to make you pop like it was 1984 all over again!!! Their first single is by the UK’s Matt Whitehead, one half of Signal Type (along with Phil Bolland on the Cultivated Electronics label) and captures the style of early Electro Funk in all it’s analogue glory. So good!!! The A side’s ‘Beat The Heat’ is the more pacey of the two tracks here, constantly building with vintage synth stabs and the true feeling of Electro, reminding us of Harold Faltermeyer and all those cats so heavy influenced by Kraftwerk. On the flip, ‘Tuff City’ Combines classic b-boy sounds and punchy drum programming to create an authentic listening experience that will make you want to get your lino out and bust some moves. Highly recommended.
