Following the sold-out first volume, the Belgian label Covadia presents a second chapter of Les Belgicains, focusing on the European rumba created by Congolese students in Belgium during the 1960s. Volume 2 includes 11 rare tracks originally issued on 45 rpm singles or never released before. Highlights include the dancefloor favourite “Guaracha Fredo” by LOS NICKELOS and previously unreleased recordings by the orchestra EBUKA EBUKA, like the swinging “Merengue Soucouss” and the emotional “Mpenzi Niambiye”. The songs unmistakably express a longing for recognition and for a rightful place for a new nation.
