Los Angeles based producer and DJ Kidgusto makes a splash of a debut with this new 12" on Brooklyn's BSTRD Boots. Previously known for a slew of 12"s on his own imprint, TrueGrooves, as well as releases on the Rhythm and Culture and Bastard Jazz labels, this 12" finds the Kid heading directly South to visit his Central and South American influences, with a quick stopover in Cape Verde. Things kick off with a deadly version of Afrosound's "Tiro Al Blanco", staying tight with the original Colombian spirit - the tune is brought up properly with new drums, chopped and spliced up for the most discerning dancefloor. Next up is a retake on Cesaria Evoria's classic "Angola", complete with down and dirty drum programming and plenty of tension build... a great number, early or late in the night. To the flip, Armando Hernandez Y Su Conjunto's classic "La Zenaida" cumbia is completely beefed up by the Kid, and just bumps perfectly - a total no-brainer. Lastly, Peruvian bandleader and Latin soulster Enrique Lynch's gets the Gusto-reconstruction on "Safari Salvaje"... loose drums, heavy percussion, deep tropical chants and screaming horns get in the mix on this one.... big tune!
