The dazzling maiden release for Futureboogie Recordings comes from one of its creators, Julio Bashmore, an artist who represents a vividly bright and unshackled future for UK electronic music. Fusing a classic soulful house sound with a hint of Chi-town and future garage, ‘Father Father’, is a welcome introduction.
An instant classic that’s full of warmth, ‘Father Father’ won’t fail to capture the heart of those that experience the piercing originality at the centre of its modern soul. From it’s soaring melodic chords, spacious percussion and crisp hi-hats to the silky vocal talents of fellow Bristolian Javeon McCarthy that lift ‘Father Father’ to anthemic heights, the title track is a enraptured sonic treat.
The instrumental version proves that the groove alone is enough to charm listeners. With a lull in tempo and a gentle breaking up of beats, ‘Craboon’ is the misty-eyed cousin of the package. Celestial synths writhe around dreamy bass-led beats and a faraway female vocal snippet crying out, “give me love”is reminiscent of an old house record shifted onto a fresh dubscape.
Born and bred in Bristol, Julio Bashmore is a rare breed in the city’s musical arena flooded with the tougher bass sounds of drum and bass and dubstep. Primarily making house music, albeit with a fresh perspective characterised by a rich variety of musical influences ranging from Daft Punk’s French electronica to the cutting edge producers of the Bristol Bass scene, it’s no surprise that Bashmore’s impact is spreading. In 2009, Claude Von Stroke’s label Dirtybird snapped him up and signed the Julio Bashmore EP, paving the way for a slew of forward-thinking labels to steal a piece of the action - Night Slugs, Ten Thousand Yen, fabric and Soul Motive all housing remixes and productions throughout 2010. Futureboogie gives him a chance to deliver his personal interpretation of what’s shaping his musical footprint.
Futureboogie Recordings is brought together by a team of musical misfits who have been involved in innovative worldwide events for near on 10 years, and a diverse agency of talent for both booking and management. With their weekly syndicated radio mix for the likes of Ibiza's Radio Sonica and Samurai.FM, and increasingly busy DJ schedule, the birth of Futureboogie Recordings is the logical next level. For their debut release they have brought together two shining talents. Not only is Julio Bashmore a beacon for the genre-bending future of electronic music, soul singer and MC Javeon McCarthey (aka Shadz) is a respected figure on the dubstep scene in Bristol. With a release carrying as much allure and character as this one, and future releases on the label set to showcase the thriving Bristol music scene and beyond, the future is full of boogie-shaped promises for this new imprint.
