Israeli producer Jerome C. delivers up four sultry, lovelorn slow-burners for Double Standard Records, the moodier, sexy sister of Wolf + Lamb. Soulful Rhodes, gentle sax, high-hats seductively closed… think of this as the soundtrack for you and that special someone’s Sade afterparty, a set of sonic candles marking out your own private dance floor. Evocative of the masters of hypnotic and soulful house (Omar S. and Theo Parrish come immediately to mind), with a dash of Chicago acid thrown in, “Incomplete EP” puts a warm, analog sound to an entirely contemporary use. This is the soundtrack of a passionate 21st century night meets the contemplative morning after. The EP’s opener “Incomplete” is a driving multi-textured track showcasing Einat’s smoky, yearning vocals, while “Why Must We Go On,” is a ménage-a-deux centered around an orgiastic jazz crescendo. The two tracks on the B-side, “Never Want Another” and “Heart and Soul,” deploy complex rolling toms and gentle-punch bass stabs worthy of the most experimental deep-house from Switzerland and Frankfurt, but with a distinctively American funk sensibility. This is a stunning first solo EP from a name that will soon be on the lips and hearts of lovers the world over.
