Following hot on the (still smouldering) heels of our critical and commercial success, White Mink: Black Cotton (the double album of Electro Swing versus Speakeasy Jazz) and the sold-out event of the same name, we are proud to introduce Jem Stone's ELECTRIC CIRCUS EP. Taking the sounds of the 1920s and 30s and giving them a big, bad twist, Jem delivers three bang-on-the-money bombs for the electro-swing dance floor. The bowler hatted, big-band brass section and speakeasy clarinets are underpinned by a darker brooding bass and production sparkle that adds contemporary electronic edge to the live jazz-band vibes. A bad-ass take on good-times music. The sounds of the first great depression with the technology of the second.
Add to this mix an incredible collaboration between Jem and his world-class VJ and animator wife, Mischa (Pete Tong/Groove Armada) in the form of their superb TELEPARP video (which you can see on YouTube, Vimeo and now MTV) and you have an astounding package that they will be bringing to their live VJ sets at electro swing nights soon.
Jem Panufnik co-founded Finger Lickin Records in 1997, recording and DJing as Soul of Man amongst other guises. Under his Jem Stone alias he's had a wide variety of releases on labels such as Fort Knox, Thrust and Finger Lickin, has remixed Kraak & Smaak, Smoove & Turrell and collaborated with Lee Coombs and Elite Force. Jem also records with Rennie Pilgrem as Bush Doctors, occasionally writes music for film and TV and is creating the soundtrack for a street-dance show touring the world later this year. A trained graphic artist and illustrator, Jem is behind all the famous Finger Lickin artwork.
