Repressed! Two sassy female vocal popcorn R&B sides twinned here, making up quite the sweet little package. Jane Baker's 'Sing On Baby' is a swaying, finger popping mid-tempo mover with cracking horns and backing vox. A tried and tested floor worker and a long established classic on the flourishing popcorn and R&B scenes.
In fact it's difficult to choose which is the better of the two sides here as Varetta Dillard's 'That's Why I Cry' is every bit the equal of the aforementioned top side. Perhaps if you prefer a slightly grittier sound, Varetta might even edge it for you as there is certainly something distinctively raw about her yearning, broken vocal delivery along with the blues guitar licks and rasping sax solo. Either way, you get two bona fide dance floor bombs for your buck, and that can't be bad in these tough old times!
