This is the third release from Hoorgi House Records, a micro independent label set up by Ivor Cutler's family after his death in 2006, to ensure continuing availability of Cutler recordings.
This re-release is from the late period of Ivor Cutler's prolific creative output. First released by Creation Records in 1997, it is unique in being Ivor Cutler's sole record which is entirely spoken word. 'A Wet Handle' comprises Ivor reciting from his poetry book of the same name, and perhaps is better thought of as a 'talking book' unlike his other albums which are predominantly songs.
This album will appeal to fans of Cutler's poetry, and especially to those who love his inimitable voice, and the CD package features Cutler's treasured idiosyncratic drawings.
The release comes as there is revived interest in Ivor Cutler's work: U2 have incorporated Ivor Cutler's song 'Women of the World' into their 2018 world tour; in October 2018 an exhibition of the art work of Ivor Cutler is to be hosted at the new Centre for Contemporary Arts based at Goldsmiths, University of London. Also in 2018, SkyArts commissioned a film about Ivor Cutler, produced by Scottish TV – introduced by and curated by KT Tunstall – bringing the world of Ivor Cutler to another generation.
