In its original form, Holy Ghost!’s debut album cut “Hold My Breath” is, pure and simple, great dancefloor electronic pop; in the hands of shadowy duo Tiger & Woods, the song has been totally reshaped and refracted through ’80s R&B radio. They’ve slowed the pace and inserted synth-funk hot flashes that recall Prince – and, no kidding, The Time, and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis – to create a mood that fits comfortably (and pleasurably) within their “future boogie” m.o. Cosmic Kids Ron Poznansky and Dan Terndrup have taken the track in a more tensely dramatic direction. It might be the vaguely darkened synthline upon which much of that track sits that lends itself to its more intense feel here, and gives it such a pleasant nocturnal feel. Finally, there’s Falty DL’s re-envisioning, which goes down awfully smooth for a track so full of the big, thick, bumping bass beats. It’s an aural pleasure to find yourself dreamily lost in the Brooklyn, New York producer/DJ’s halls of reverberating sound.
