Mr SoulCuts loves Gregory Porter, the greatest jazz vocalist of our generation. With two classic albums under his belt, Gregory‘s position as one of the leading lights in contemporary soul and jazz is assured. Quality runs deep across both his albums, Water and Be Good, but if one track stands out as his greatest to date, it has to be 1960 What? Following its release in 2010, 1960 What? was heralded as an instant classic. As such, when head honcho and fellow DJ at SoulandJazz.com, Brian Hurst suggested SoulandJazz.com commission a remix of said cut by Italian jazz man Gerardo Frisina, I was a little sceptical. However, upon delivery of the finished track, I was astounded by how Gerardo had managed to retain all the class, drive and passion of the original while injecting a devastating Latin rhythm to push 1960 What? emphatically on to the dance floor. Jazz-dance record of the year? No doubt!
