Adjectival E Individuals returns for our 2nd release – and as promised we have switched up the genre from the Juke of our previous EP by Wheez-ie onto the garage and dubstep influenced futurist techno of young UK based producer Graphics. When we came across Alfie on Soundcloud we picked up on strange details and mesmeric layers in his tunes, but it’s the way these coalesce into exciting and intriguing musical wholes that really blows us away. These 2 shape-shifting tracks take the listener on imaginative journeys through morphing sonic landscapes and musical perspectives. A.‘OK Rainbow’. The point of this tracks’ departure is way different from it’s final destination. The track begins in dark shadowy terrain with strange voices, leering brass and bubbling sequences riding a propulsive rhythm of clicks and ticks. Also here are sounds that seem to link the ancient and the modern. Everything suddenly drops away to allow for an intense extended build up. The tension breaks through to blinking daybreak chords supported by the radiant warmth of sub bass and crowned by playful, infectious re-pitched vocal hooks. The effect is dazzling! After a brief breather the final section re-edits bassline, chords and vocals to thrillingly funky effect. (Also we should mention the unusual inclusion of almost subliminal chattering voices in what sounds like an unedited dialogue to themselves during long passages of this strange and wonderful track.) Although this is a somewhat clinical dissection of the composition, this trackfeels seamless, flowing, psychedelic and unique. AA. ‘Adjectival E’. There’s a hovering haze like ominous low cloud cover over this track. A humid sweltering atmosphere. Dizzying combinations of distant, echoed vocals combine in rhythmic clusters and faint phrases. From over the horizon a huge woozy synth emerges to weave its’ twisted alchemy sounding like a sinister snake charmer. The mood here is pensive but invigorating. Powerful, heady stuff!
