Elizabeth Bernholz, AKA Gazelle Twin, has been making some serious statements of intent over the last couple of years, making some uncompromising music in uncompromising times. Her 2014 album, “Unflesh” was a demonic and unsettling collection of dark electronica and autobiographical themes that was judged by The Quietus as their ‘Album Of The Year’. A previous debut album and singles have surfaced on the Anti-Ghost Moon Ray Records label and the Philly based Sugarcane Records label. Hypercolour mainstay, Tom Demac, has also been a busy, cutting some deadly electro techno of late for labels like Aus Music and Drumcode, and remixing for Luke Vibert, BANKS and Tosca. These two vociferous artists collide on this HypeLTD release, a meeting of mutual minds from the nether reaches of electronic music’s vast landscape. Demac tears down the Gazelle Twin original compositions and rebuilds them with feverish candor. “Belly of The Beast” pounds hard with rubbery percussion and rattling hats like chains, the Gazelle Twin chants her mantra “I’ll beat them all at their own game…” Demac’s padded cell like production is most definitely some of the best work we’ve heard him do to date, and this dark sound aesthetic spills into his take on “GUTS". Like an electro take on a John Carpenter score, Demac carves out a futuristic and desolate take on Gazelle Twin’s celebration of urge resistance and taking pleasure in the complexity of the mind. Two killer tracks then from this unique pairing of artists, coming on HypeLTD in February 2015 on 12″.
