After years of honing his craft as one half of UK House duo Homepark, newcomer Fold continues his prolific run of solo work following on from his debut outing on George FitzGerald’s ManMakeMusic imprint earlier this year with the ‘Slime EP’. He now makes his first appearance on electric minds with the ‘Upstairs For Thinking, Downstairs For Dancing EP’ armed with an arsenal of four tracks that are tailored to suit all moods of the dancefloor and that have already been given the thumbs up from the likes of Joy Orbison and Midland. Lead track ‘Crumbs’ is a trailblazing cut of jacking techno with a stuttering acid bassline that effortlessly intertwines with the thumping 4/4 kick drum no surprise then that it has been a firm crowd favourite at electric minds parties in London and abroad over the last few months. Proving that he is able to slow things down a notch, ‘Bun Dem’ is a more restrained effort that’s littered with a vocal sample that loops over the crunching drums and delayed chords for altogether more cerebral affair. On the B side ‘Dread’ picks up where ‘Crumbs’ left off with an energetic drum programming and arresting hi hats that are complimented by warm, atmospheric synths whilst the EP’s closing track ‘Motel’ is a and steadily paced journey into the submerged depths of dub techno to round off an accomplished debut on electric minds from a producer who looks like he’s here to stay.
