Great 20th Century Fox reissue EP featuring four hard-to-find classics from Northern Soul hero Edwin Starr. Blessed with an intensely powerful voice, Starr also showed great skill and innovation in his productions creating masterpieces in a wild variety of styles from lo-fi minimal funk to hi-octane disco. This collection kicks off with Get Up (Whirlpool), a wonderful stripped-back hypnotic chugger which slowly but surely churns the dancefloor into a frenzy, moving onto glacier-cool low-slung funk grinder Easin In, famous for its Ice-T sampled break. On the B side Starr hits his grooving stride with I Just Wanna Do My Thing, a great disco-funk stomper with a raw intense vocal performance. Finally, no self-respecting Edwin Starr comp would be complete without percussion-laden hi-energy disco classic Contact featured here in its full 12 version glory. Top stuff!
