In 2009, DJ Kaos released Love the Night Away, a disco dusted single that resulted in a lovely Tiedye remix which inspired countless swoons. It was followed by Komischer Ruckenwind, wherein Kaos made beauteous cosmic music (in case the title didnt give it away) and 2010s Horny Morning Loop, a loping all-nighter of a dance cut. On the heels of those tracks all great and wanting of repeat listens From Inside feels nothing short of overdue. The new track is not merely a reemergence, but a concerted return to his roots for the German producer, in more ways than one. Kaoss latest is krautrock all over; it weaves strand after strand of its various strains into its blend. What results is both a celebration of Germanys legacy of musical experimentation and innovation, and a remembrance of Kaoss lengthy tenure spent working at the legendary Conny Plank studio (Can, Neu!, Kraftwerk). And yet, to leave it there would be to overlook so much else thats interwoven. Amidst the long, kosmic synth strains and the blinking, starlit keys, impossibly romantic undertones waft through. They rise to the very surface when the vocal emerges, a soothing melody of earnest proclamations to a longed for lover. Tiago, DJ Kaoss long-term colleague in music and friend two decades on, brings his vision of the track to the flipside. The DJ/producers Club Dub is a song completely transformed. It springs on percussion those drums are played by Tiago himself and keeps going, full stop, without taking a breath. You can even hear, in the spaces between beats and the circling rhythms, what sounds like rockets streaking their way across the sound. Tiagos Club Mix, which moves with a highly similar feel, bounds on its electronics, an endless brew of syths, and the reconfigured vocals, which seem all the more emphatic in this headstrong mix.
