2011’s been a busy year for relative newcomers, DBR UK. After securing releases on labels such as Ingredients, Samurai & Dispatch, the releases seem to be coming thick-and-fast – and in fine style too. Following on from their highly regarded first release on BLKND, this offering sees the trio return with the long-awaited and highly sought after ‘Kilo’.
Kilo : Originally destined for Doc Scott’s seminal imprint ‘31 Records’, ‘Kilo’ finds itself a new – and very welcome – home on BLKND. Stripped-to-the-bone beats and tension strings build a undeniable sense of anticipation before it drops into a cavernous bass abyss. A real masterclass in minimalism, proving that less, really can be more.
New Man : ‘New Man’ begins proceedings with a single kick-drum, tight percussion and space-age chords. Things pause for second before the hypnotic, funky three-note bass makes itself known. This manages to suck you in and keep your head nodding right to the very end. Simple, yet deadly.
DJ Support : Loxy, Doc Scott, Bailey, Total Science, Flight, Foreign Concept, Ink.
