This concert is a rarity: In 1958, two years prior to the Essen performance from which this concert recording is taken, after several shake-ups of the rhythm combo, a band was formed which should make history as the "classic Brubeck Quartet": Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond, Gene Wright, Joe Morello. The group was well versed in the art of joining commercial success and intellect. The euphoria which welcomed Brubeck (but also the secret star of the band, Paul Desmond, whose soulful play was unique) was particularly great in Germany - and the Essen recording is an impressive proof of that: An audience of more than 12000 people at the gigantic Grugahalle were beside themselves with joy. This unparalleled concert is now available for the first time in brilliantly restored sound quality on CD and LP. First-time release of the legendary concert on LP (180g special edition); Advertisements in all major German jazz- and music magazines, e.g. Jazzthing, Jazzpodium, Fono Forum, among others; Reviews in all leading daily papers, journals and magazines; Radio programmes about the releases.
