After a slew of massive singles this year, the ESP Institute presents one of the most important pieces of electronic music to emerge in ages, Gozmez Land *Chaosexotica, the highly anticipated full-length album from Tokyo’s COS/MES (the cryptic moniker for DJ/production duo Flatic and 5ive). This is truly something special, an exotic journey over eleven stunning tracks, beautifully constructed and holding their own individually while working in perfect harmony as a gracefully paced album.
Born out of the art collective Tasha Hisha (iseneehihinee) in 2004, COS/MES developed a musical style that crossed over, connecting various Tokyo scenes, from skateboarders to ravers, graffiti artists to film makers. An essential element within Tokyo's underground, the two undoubtably hold their own amongst the best Japan has to offer; artists such as Force of Nature, Discossession, Altz, Yogurt and Traks Boys as well as labels like Crue-L and the newly emerging Ene.
Amidst the looming chaos of Tokyo life, COS/MES combine their nerdy musical tendencies and psychedelic meanderings to create this well-balanced melting pot of musical stories, an accomplishment rarely achieved by their contemporaries. We're pushed through a chaotic sea of exotic House, Balearic, Cosmic Jazz, World Music until we're entranced, happily lost in Gozmez Land. The sleeve art, a stunning visual interpretation, was crafted by ESP Institute’s artist Mario Hugo.
