With their hit single „Check Chuck” as well as with “Polar Bear”, duo Composer set independent radio airwaves ablaze with a good deal of humour and pop brilliance. Its sense of escapism and intoxicated ecstasy also seeps through these new takes on the song by Breton, Monokle, Arandel & Poborsk.
These days, you’d have a hard time ignoring the Breton phenomenon. In the press, on the radio and the web – via a wealth of videos – the southeast London four-piece is everywhere and proving to be streets ahead on this year’s ones-to-watch list. “Check Chuck” was soon to bend under their fiery mix of groovy synths and ear-splitting compressors. Boom!
Monokle, with his reference- and texture-woven ‘poptronica’, helped make the name of netlabels such as Ideology and 13 Rec, before releasing via Jumble the glorious “Birds Swirl” maxi-EP. His remix for “Check Chuck”, imbued with a muffled and ironically cynical melancholy, could have been at home in a Scarlett Johansson film. A last glass of vodka, a last dance before taking the plunge.
Mysterious French entity, Arandel has developed since the release of his debut LP, “In D” quite a reputation of remixer for himself. It already enlightened the productions of French Rock Band, Tahiti 80, Agoria and no less than Classic Austrian Superstar Mozart. Minimal as well as progressive, Its remix send forward “Polar Bear” into new iced territories.
Experimental French expert, Poborsk swaps Eluerd´s voice for a vocoded voices and Eric synth explosions for depth charge bass drops and steel plated beats. Equally dizzying and delightful.
