Anyone spending any amount of time with each of the Clubroot LP’s could easily deduce that a great deal of care is put into the pacing of the full lengths. Usually when we are in the middle of this process, we use the cinema of Paradjanov, Tarkovsky, and Kieslowski as a touchstone with regards to the pacing, arrangement, and segue durations. In doing so, we gradually realize that certain pieces can play a role in taking the listener in a subconscious direction which in the scope of the entire recording can leave unanswered tones, so to speak. That is when the tough cuts come, much as with cinema.
But unlike cinema, we can just as easily make a supplemental release, which in its own truncated way, can provide the same level of holistic complexity. This is where the tracks from the second disc of the II – MMX special edition came from, and hence, went to, and now, we complete the circle on the vinyl side of the equation, with this EP, compiling this material on vinyl 12”.
This release is forever to be taken, and assessed as a separate entity from the LP, and as with the CD version, be seen as supplemental. We did however account for this uniformity of format, and thus the LP jacket for the II – MMX is slightly oversized, in order for this release to be neatly contained within, right alongside the other 2 12”s. Many may never find their counterpart, and that is just fine, as, like we said, this is a separate entity, and stands alone on its caliber and level of quality. Not many would argue with that.
