Alphabet Set continue their 10th birthday celebrations with the release of their latest split EP, ‘Logan Systems’. Cignol’s contribution follows the pattern of his recent live sets, made largely with vintage analogue gear, with it’s sights set firmly on the floor. ‘Systems’ opens the EP with a warm 808 break which leads into swirling dystopian Juno synth lines. Echoing the spacier sounds of Detroit this is bound to appeal to fans of the deeper side of electro. ‘Kingrah’ continues the up front feel, with the clipped vocal sample taking it into jacking territory while the contrasting minor pads mid way are reminiscent of Cignol’s earlier, more melancholic work. T-woc takes the reigns on the flip for ‘Logan’s Run’ Parts1 & 2. Part 1 is a post dubstep, tech-edged shuffler, built around a loop that keeps growing in intensity, before leading the listener to a eerie synth led conclusion. For Part 2, T-woc takes the essence of the track and brings it deeper. Building from a jews harp style opening, the track wears it’s shoegaze influences proudly on its sleeve. The celebratory synth line, peaking towards the end delivers a fitting climax to the EP. Limited pressing of 200 copies only.
