In between creating sublime and soulful deep house music (championed by the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Doc Martin & Luciano) I’m guessing Berlin based duo Oliver $ and Gene Siewing aka Chubby Dubz spend a lot of their spare time at Baskin & Robbins ice cream parlor. Where else could they have taken the inspiration for their 31 Flavors EP for Ornate Music from? Well if it isn’t, do not fear because it’s definitely as sweet and tasty as any of the 31 Flavours championed there. “How long has it been since you’ve snapped your fingers?” asks the title track of the 31 Flavors EP. If it’s been a while, this deep and throbbing slab of house will definitely get them going again. Reminiscent of the deep house classic “Paper Moon” by 51 Days the hypnotic vocal, tribal percussion and atmospheric strings will definitely help you lose a few hours on the dancefloor and keep the party going till the break of dawn. On the flipside Turn Around gives a nod and a wink to belle du jour Motor City Drum Ensemble with discordant key changes, vocal stabs and disco claps. The 31 Flavors (Late Nite Dub) does exactly what it says on the tub, keeping the vibe and atmosphere of the original but adding tough and snappy percussion making this an extremely tasty last mouthful of a rather scrumptious EP.
