From Kansas City, deep in the American Midwest, Chocolate Snow were to be Wichita’s answer to Earth, Wind & Fire or Sly & the Family Stone. The flamboyantly-dressed multi-ethnic band courted controversy on and off the stage, often resulting in being chased out of many towns and cities. On one of their hectic tours label boss Dick Smart approached them to record for Solo Records. Their release (A take on the Wes Montgomery version of the Beatles ‘A Day In The Life') broke new ground, yielding an almost unrecognisable take on Lennon & McCartney classic, but the 45 stiffed. After a move to Los Angeles, they recorded the track again for a local label, but this time with a vocal on top and entitled ‘Inflation’. Whilst it never made it to release it was unearthed recently by Numero Group. Deep, deep music, way ahead of its time, destined for the discerning ears of today, and presented here for the first time on 45 as the ‘A’ side of this beautiful deep soulful gem.
