The first release on Mean for the year 2010 will see Cesare vs Disorder returning on his home imprint to collaborate with Rainer in the "Battle for Mouths" EP, in what will be the ninth instalment of this underground label. Rainer is a young Catalan DJ/producer and a rising talent of the Serialism/ Mean collective in London, who has previously gained a lot of attention from some of the hottest artists in the scene with his track "Neuralgia" on the London Cuts EP - the latest release on Serialism Records. A1 ‘Pungi’ is a hypnotic deep tech-house roller that emphasises on filters passing through the arrangement with jazzy sax melodies, creating a delicate and elaborate musical journey of just over 9 minutes. Sassy and sexy vocals complement the sax and this is without a doubt a masterpiece from these great friends and collaborators. On the b-side, ‘Battle for mouths’ is a percussive track that elegantly develops into a driving track with some mysterious vocals being layered into the arrangement with colourful reverbs. Jazz horn stabs and plenty of percussion keep movement and shape of this elegantly crafted track. As sounds appear and disappear the groove continues pushing and pulsating. Kate Simko of Spectral Sound and Ghostly International is handed the remixing duties for ‘Battle for mouths’, offering a subtler, yet beautifully crafted piece of tech-house to close. Kate is warmly welcomed to the Mean imprint and she adds a feminine and refined touch to close the ep! Sublime production as expected!
