The return of the legendary Back to Basics imprint is indeed a menacing affair, with an original track from residents Woodall & Buckley and remixes from the irrepressible Jamie Jones and legendary Chris Duckenfield under his Acid guise the "Half Inch Jack".
The original track is named Kitch N Sync, and is a blistering seven minutes of menacing acid house futurism. An opening salvo of storming rhythms and vocal stabs gives way to a blistering acid bass line and crisp drum production. It all flows into a perfectly executed breakdown, modulated by a twisted vocal sample and lively bleeps. With elements of glitch and intelligent editing the Basics residents have created a cerebral monster with an infectiously funky heart.
Jamie Jone's remix delivers a relentless deep groove through a series of dynamic peaks and troughs, percussion and funky fx hits. With two subtle vocal samples oscillating against each other to underpin the groove this remix provides an appropriate counterpoint to the title track and will be the kind of track that will guarantee mass hysteria in a club environment. The Half Inch Jack remix throws upon us a fierce declaration of intent, swinging and swaggering through a corridor of controlled subsonics and razor-sharp percussion whilst bringing an unrestrained acid bass right up front in an overstated, aggressive manner. As well as providing some interesting ear candy, Half Inch Jacks musicality and deft production combined with a tidy arrangement ensures a well constructed conclusion.
