A split release from two more dark horses is the second offering on the sublabel, and once again filth is the order of the day as the unknowns take two contrasting angles on house music rampages. Bigote is some kind of farcical, deliberately deranged take on Latin house, complete with lapses into reggaeton vocals and some deliriously dirty lyrical content that we won’t reveal here… Let’s just say it’s not without precedent in house music, but our lack of Spanish language skills didn’t keep us from getting the score, and this kind of intentionally lowbrow crudeness is still rare. Of course, if it were only that, it could wear itself out quickly, but the producer’s aping of the most simplistic Latin house tropes – horn stabs, percussion , etc. – all in a fidelity that would do ’80s dancehall reggae proud, combined with his obvious lack of interest in playing it straight makes for plenty of laugh-out-loud moments over the extended length. Like the lyrical content, the track itself is arranged in call-and-response form, and over time every conceivable liberty is taken is taken with the source material. Sling and Samo’s DJ Tool #1 is comparatively reserved in keeping with its name, but this is still L.I.E.S. we’re talking about so things are plenty dark, dirty, deep and twisted and definitely hold attention throughout, even if it’s obviously meant for another part of the night (or another party entirely). We dare you to drag out both in one set….
