It’s been a couple of years since Victim last released a full 12″, but just like the buses you wait that long and then two come along at once. For Victim, the ‘Off Piste’ 12″ follows hot on the heels of their split 12″ with Jerome Hill & Don’t Recordings. In the case of Ben Pest, they’re coming thick and fast at the moment, with a recent release on Luke’s Anger’s Bonus Round label, and an upcoming 12″ on the seriously deranged Panic Bridge label. So, all in all a busy few months. As for the tracks, they all share in common a seriously weighty bottom end, and a tendency for crunchy acidic mids…but that is kinda where the similarities end, as Ben takes the opportunity to explore various avenues off the main street of techno. From the stomping acid workout of ‘Zeedonk’ to the more electro-influenced beats of ‘Pain n gain’ this is a record that covers a fair few bases (basses?), although all with the aim of thrilling a crowd that enjoys their techno on the gnarly side.
