No longer a fledgling artist, Anthea is now firmly at the forefront as one of house and techno’s leading DJ and production talents. Once a fixture behind the counters of London’s Flying Records and Phonica Records, the recent Berlin transplant has been honing her tastemaker’s ear for the better part of 15 years. Anthea built a reputation as arguably the most in-demand female DJ in London, and now she disseminates her distinct brand of funk-fuelled music to every corner of the globe, as a world-renowned DJ, an artist for Cecille, Phonica, Freak n Chic and Desolat, as vocalist and collaborator alongside many of the scene’s underground heroes, and as the A&R expert behind the sound of Brouqade Records. Anthea’s rise from the East London club scene to international tours in the U.S., Europe and South America is a direct result of her talent and determination. Word of her roof-raising sets at local institutions like Fabric and T-Bar landed her coveted podcasts with Ibiza Voice and Pulse Radio, followed by repeat appearances at Watergate in Berlin, Harry Klein in Munich, Underground in Ibiza, and Gipsy in Moscow to name a select few. Though she casts her net wide, Anthea remains a DJ first and foremost, and this shines through her infectious performances for leading clubs and festivals around the world. Casting an eye over Anthea’s productions, it’s clear that value lies in their worth, and not their quantity; all of her releases and remixes have been carefully selected, and associations with Freak ‘n Chic, Phonica, All Inn, One Records, Desolat and air london speak to her esteem among the scene’s leading labels. Anthea’s keen sense for mood, groove, and sleek sound aesthetics saw early efforts on Supplement Facts and Tuningspork, and further releases on Supernature and Bootleg. As a solo artist Anthea continues to develop a style that is very much her own: falling somewhere between house and techno, and always deep, tribal and bassline-driven. Anthea’s collaborations with close friend Alex Celler have produced more than a little musical chemistry, and two years on, their track “The Playmaker” still holds its place as one of Resident Advisor's Top 40 tracks of all time. Anthea has complemented this by joining forces with Werner Niedermeier as JC Freaks, resulting in a run of deep and classy EPs for Mojuba and Wandering. Her recent feature and vocal work on Guti’s album Patio de Juegos, as well as her collaboration with fellow Berliner and label partner-in-crime Dana Ruh on “Finally” are further evidence of her collaborative talents in the studio. As one third of Berlin’s young and uprising Brouqade Records — alongside Dana Ruh and Ann M Cazal — Anthea’s inherently sharp A&R perspective has resulted in a string of fresh and exciting new artists being brought to the fore as the artists of tomorrow, with label showcases high in demand. While currently busy with a program of Brouquade showcases which promise a number of high-profile guests in the near future, further Anthea releases on Crazyjack, Mobilee, Desolat, Kina and of course Brouqade are all in the pipeline. With an emphasis on creating, and not imitating, Anthea has laid more than solid foundations for herself in 2013, and beyond that there lies nothing but an inspired future The A1 'Thing For D' hypnotises the listener completely, with Anthea's skillful programming of modular hihats, glitchy zings and impulsive wobbles. These are the rulers in Thing for D alongside a stunning atmospheric pad soundscape behind the main elements and infectious melody, Thing for D draws the listener into another dimension and shows Anthea's great strength in keeping you in a groove. On the flip our B1 ‘Solid State’, with its broken rhythm, dirty synths and glitchy grits, shows another side of the artist ... its not a straight groove but it goes straight to its striking point. Thirdly our B2 ‘We All Want Bliss’ it is intended as a stripped down house tool, distinguished by a sensual vibe and deep rolling baseline and intensified by atmospheric vocals sung by Anthea herself!….the result?… a track which is giving the dance floor a moment of bliss.
